Patchwork crafts gain popularity among young Chinese_我的网站

一 | (ECNS) -- The 21st Chinese medical team sent to Guyana recently offered free consultations to more than 100 Chinese employees working on Belt and Road projects. Visiting a project camp operated by China CAME Engineering Company, the team provided checks across multiple specialties, including blood pressure and glucose testing, and distributed common medicines. Team leader Li Huansong learned that many Chinese workers face health issues due to long hours working in hot and humid environments, as well as limited local medical resources and language barriers. The team also offered advice on tropical disease prevention, heat protection, first aid and mental health care. Workers said the service improved health for overseas workers and supported the exchanges between the two countries. (By Helen Mo, intern Liu Shuangjing)
。 (ECNS) -- Patchwork, a traditional handicraft that transforms leftover fabrics into unique creations, is becoming increasingly popular among young people in China. Unlike fixed-pattern crafts, patchwork allows freedom in color, texture and design, with each piece reflecting personal style through stitches and combinations. The craft requires no advanced skills, making it accessible to beginners. Sewing workshops have sprung up in many cities, teaching participants how to use machines, select fabrics and create items ranging from skirts and tops to bags. In Wuyi, Zhejiang Province, studios have drawn young customers during summer vacation, with parents also bringing children to try the craft. Patchwork has a long history in China, as similar practices were recorded in The Rites of Zhou, a classic text on the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC). Over centuries, the craft has reflected traditional values of cherishing resources and craftsmanship. Bu Xiting, a researcher at Communication University of China, said patchwork helps people relax amid fastpaced urban life and reflects growing environmental awareness by reusing old clothes. He added that slow handicrafts are becoming lifestyle consumption trends, with potential for integration into homestays, museums and public education.
